For those of us who live fully or partially off the grid, we are taking responsibility for in-sourcing rather than outsourcing our basic needs for food, water, power, etc.
Similarly, Off the Grid Wellness promotes an attitude and lifestyle of taking responsibility for the health and well being of our own bodies, minds, and souls.
Like a seed packed with its own instruction manual for growth, we too have an innate inner healer. We are wired for growth and healing. Many of our psyches have been strip-mined by the media, educational, and cultural systems, but as we re-wild and reclaim our wholeness, we reclaim our inner knowing.
Seeding Versus Pruning Model:
As a farmer and homesteader, I work with the land as a living system. When there are invasive plants, I focus less on removal of the plant and more on the balancing of the whole ecosystem so that the invaders don't take over. I call this the seeding versus the pruning model or treating the cause rather than the symptom.
How might we shift our orientation towards seeding psyche rather than pruning pathology?
Every stage of growth is sacred - from the tightly packed seed to the bud, blossom, and fruit.
Seeds : Within each of us is a blueprint for reaching our ultimate potential. We all have an inner intelligence which guides our process of growth.
Orienting towards the voice within rather than the competing voices without
Learning to recognize inner truth
Soil: Are we truly nourishing our body, mind, and spirit, or are we caught in chronic stress cycles that bring depletion?
Moving out of coping and back to living.
Relinquishing addictions.
Examining self-care practices and the nutrition they bring.
Releasing the Martyr. Self care is NOT self indulgent.
Compost: How are we digesting and mulching the lessons of our past so that there is room for new growth? As the poet David Whyte says, “our lives are constantly growing too small for us.”
Understanding the chrysalis - the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly.
Befriending transformational tension
Harvest: Dare to thrive and embody your unique expression in a way that only YOU can. The world needs it! Don't miss it by stunting your growth or planting yourself in someone else's garden.
Soulcentric rites of passage
For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn't understand growth, it would look like complete destruction. - Cynthia Occelli
